Resumo Alternativo: Introduction: The aging process leads to the loss of collagen, causing depressions in the skin and reducing the delimitation of the labial borders (Cupid's bow) and pallor of the vermilion of the lip. In this sense, hyaluronic acid (HA) stands out because it is a safe, effective, reversible filling material with good durability. Objectives: The present work aims to describe a clinical case treated with hyaluronic acid in order to fill in the upper and lower lips of the patient, making them more voluminous. Case report: Female patient, 35 years old, sought a private clinic with the main complaint of the lips being asymmetrical and with little volume. The patient was clinically evaluated and asymmetry of the lips was noticed, for this, the filler based on hyaluronic acid Volift®, from the brand Allergan (France), was presented as a treatment option and its advantages and disadvantages explained to the patient. After that, the filler was applied in a single session, using a cannula and a 1 ml syringe, the procedure was performed uneventfully. Final consideration: From the procedure performed, it is observed that filling with hyaluronic acid makes it possible to restore joviality, lip proportions and self-esteem to the patient.

Resumo Alternativo: Introduction: Culturally, there are specific facial patterns for females and males, which can be corrected with facial fillers. As we age, the production of hyaluronic acid (HA) decreases in the skin, as well as bone remodeling and replacement of fat pads. To return such lost volume, you can opt for HA-based fillers, which are capable of remodeling the patient's face, restoring aesthetic harmony to the thirds of the face. Objectives: This study aims to describe a clinical case treated with HA in the contouring of the middle and lower third of the face, restoring better aesthetics and self-esteem to the patient. Case report: Male patient, 22 years old, sought a private dental clinic with the aim of an evaluation for face restructuring. The patient was clinically evaluated and the need for harmonization of the middle and lower thirds of the face was noted. The treatment option with an AH-based filler was presented, with Voluma and Volux, from the Allergan brand (France), being chosen. After that, the fillers were applied in a single session, using one syringe of Volux and two of Voluma (1 mL each syringe). The procedure was performed uneventfully, demonstrating satisfactory results after a 12-month postoperative follow-up. Final consideration: Because it is biocompatible, HA becomes safe and effective for use in harmonizing the middle and lower third of the face. In addition to providing comfort to the patient, it results in desired aesthetic aspects and restores self-esteem to the individual. In this sense, knowledge of facial anatomy and the safety of which filler will be used by the professional is essential.

Resumo Alternativo: The aim of the present study was to evaluate, in vitro, the antimicrobial action of hypochlorous acid in root canals infected against Enterococcus faecalis. Thirty extracted single-rooted human teeth were used for the present study. The coronal portion was sectioned at the cementoenamel junction, so that the remaining root has a length of 15 mm. Then, the samples were sterilized in an autoclave for 30 minutes at a temperature of 120°C. Then, the samples were inoculated with 100 μl of Enterococcus faecalis culture and immersed in microtubes containing 2 ml of BHI. The samples were kept immersed in bacterial culture for fourteen days and stored in a bacteriological oven at a temperature of 37°C, with renewal of the culture medium every 48 hours. After the contamination period, the samples were divided into three groups (n=10) according to the final irrigation protocol tested: G1: distilled water (control); G2: 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (2.5% NaOCl); G3: hypochlorous acid (Dentaqua). Colony forming units (CFUs) counts were performed to assess the decontamination effectiveness of the proposed treatments. Statistical analysis was performed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Tukey post-hoc (α=0.05). The substances tested were effective in reducing bacteria, when compared to the control group, with no statistical difference between them (p<0.05). Concluding that the hypochlorous acid produced by the Dentaqua device was effective in reducing bacteria.

Resumo Alternativo: The objective of the present study was to evaluate, in vitro, the cytotoxicity of a hypochlorous acid solution obtained from an electrolytic device, at a concentration of 250 ppm, in comparison with sodium hypochlorite at a concentration of 2.5%. The cytotoxicity test was performed using the MTT assay, which corresponds to a colorimetric test used to assess cell viability. The groups used to carry out this study were: G1 – distilled water (control); G2 – 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (2.5% NaOCl) and G3 – 250ppm hypochlorous acid (250 ppm HClO). After preparing the cell culture medium, 100 uL of the same treatment groups already mentioned were added individually to the wells containing the medium, being incubated for a period of 3 minutes. All experiments were performed in triplicate and cell viability percentages were calculated relative to cell controls. Cytotoxicity was analyzed by one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's post-hoc test (α=0.05). The results of the cytotoxicity test revealed that all chemical substances tested were statistically different when compared to the control group. However, the G3 group was less cytotoxic than the G2 group. It can be concluded that hypochlorous acid was less cytotoxic when compared to sodium hypochlorite, in addition to being as effective as bacterial reduction.
