Representações sociais do feminino na obra a Ferro e Fogo I de Josué Guimarães

Abstract

The representations that literature creates encompass a different vision from a historical point of view. While Literature rescues subjects and historical contexts, transforming them into a story fictional, whether or not it contemplates elements that existed, History produces a narrative concentrated on research sources, placing the narrator in a commitment to the story, not allowing you to fantasize a certain story. Literature, thus, produces a story with new perspectives, providing a renewal in the interpretation of certain contexts, which Sometimes they are fed up with the historical narrative. The present work aims to analyze the social representations of women based on female characters in the work A Ferro and Fogo I: time of solitude, by Josué Guimarães. In this sense, such investigation is justified, as the majority of work carried out on this work originates from area of ​​Letters and Literature, noticing a gap in the historical perspective on this. For the development of such research, the methodology of discourse analysis was used, seeking reflect the categories of family structure, representation of women, conservatism and female submission by examining how these elements were portrayed by the author of the constructions. From this analysis, it was observed that women from this period were inserted in an extremely conservative society, which legitimized a family structure based in positions and tasks defined for men and women. Furthermore, submission was preached female at the command of the male figure. Thus, the study of the work allowed us to conclude that, although inserted in this conservative society, the writer Josué Guimarães proposed to represent in a different way, the women who made up southern Rio Grande do Sul society, who sometimes challenged the regulations of the social fabric, which is the case of the main character, the immigrant Catarina and the prostitutes of Porto Alegre. In addition to these, the writer represented women elite, with their explicit submission, also slaves, midwives and indigenous women. In synthesis, discussion and expansion of studies on the formation of Rio Grande do Sul society, are necessary for understanding the formation of this region, since many elements are still present today in Rio Grande do Sul.
