“O espírito do Herói Fundador”: a representação da Colônia Serro Azul nos escritos do Pe. Max

Abstract

The study proposes to understand the construction of the representation of the Serro Azul colony in writings of Father Max von Lassberg, based on the analysis of his diary “Reminiscências: Allerlei aus meinem Leben”, completed in 1930. The diary Reminiscências was translated from the German language to the Portuguese language in 2002 by Arthur Blásio Rambo, and published as a book by the publisher Unisinos. Father Lassberg, born in Germany, dedicated his life to the religious mission. In 1886 he emigrated to Brazil, led by the Jesuit Mission that was already established in several Brazilian states. As a Jesuit priest, first established itself in Rio Grande do Sul, in the colonial region of Vale dos Sinos and Caí, however, He began traveling, implementing pastoral activities throughout the southern region of Brazil. Thus, he arrived in the Northwest region of the State, where he was one of the founders of the Serro colony Azul (current municipality of Cerro Largo/RS), in 1902. For his pioneering spirit and dedication to colonization of Colônia Serro Azul, Father Lassberg became an emblematic figure for understand the structure of this Colony. All these paths taken are carefully narrated by Father Lassberg, leaving a record not only of his life, but also the context of colonization and shaping of the regions described. Search then, through Discourse Analysis, use the work as a research source, understand the importance of writing in the context of migration, where this work produces a link of feelings and memories left in the act of e/immigration. Therefore, the study of his writings contribute to understanding the formation and structuring of a colony particular, ethnic and confessional in the northwest of Rio Grande do Sul, at the beginning of the 20th century.
