Abstract

The "Battle of Wheat" included accusations about Argentina's attempts to interfere in the Brazilian wheat market, a situation that led the Argentine embassy in Brazil to prepare a dossier containing the columns published on the subject. The research aims to shed light about the complex political and economic interactions between Brazil and Argentina, as well as about the way these interactions were portrayed and debated in the Brazilian press. This one The study also seeks to analyze the representation and discourse about the Battle of Trigo in two of the most influential Brazilian periodicals: Correio da Manhã (CM) and O Globo (OG). The work focuses on analyzing the columns of these newspapers, identifying the events narrated, the protagonists involved and their claims in relation to the "Battle of Wheat". Furthermore, it aims to examine the discourse in periodicals about wheat production in Brazil and the political-commercial relations with Argentina, comparing these narratives with the existing historiography on the topic. Starting the presentation of newspapers by the newspaper Correio da Manhã, this was founded in 1901 by Edmundo Bittencourt and “was notable for being an opinion newspaper, without any type of political-partisan commitment” (Heinsfeld, 2020. p. 33).
